A Russian made Syrian Air Force fighter jet penetrated 2km into Israeli airspace, and was promptly shot down by patriot missiles. This is the first time Israel has downed a Syrian plane since 2014; earlier this year Syria shot down an Israeli F-16, which fell to the ground in Israel, injuring both airmen on board. Behind massive Russian bombing raids, Syrian army and Iranian backed Shi’ite militias have been retaking the Southwestern region of the war-torn country, operating in close proximity to the Israeli border. Israel warned Syria, via multiple messages sent through Russian military, not to violate its airspace; Bashar al-Assad should now understand the seriousness of those warnings.
